Saturday evening, I bathed out of a Home Depot bucket in the backyard. Me, a washcloth, an orange bucket.

Meanwhile, what a World Cup — like a Super Bowl mixed with an Olympics mixed with an alien invasion.

I wanted to root for Spain, for they play a virtuoso version of futbol, but then I recalled how Franco launched fascism in Europe. That was many paellas ago, sure. But to forget is to forgive.

One thought: Why don’t soccer refs issue Gold Cards for remarkable plays? Or, when a player trips over his own feet and doesn’t raise his arms in protest, as they always do.

Reward good, honest play with Amex cards, and maybe a free oil change. It’s about time the world celebrated class.
