A Happy Easter to you all. I am going to Easter Vigil tonight, Easter mass tomorrow morning (to see the little ones), then sharing a Passover dinner with my Jewish daughter-in-law and friends. An ecumenical for sure.
"She seemed to have the world's car keys in her hand..." See? This is why I love your writing, Chris. Not only are your metaphors delightfully surprising, they are instantly relatable. I felt exactly like that teenage girl at one time and you connected me to that long-buried feeling in one sweet sentence. What do I love? April, chocolate, love itself, and reading your posts twice a week. Oh, and your pictures. Thank you. Happy Easter to you and Suzanne and your wonderful kids and grands. XOXO
Happy Easter! You always have a few wonderfully crafted quips that I admire and am inspired by. I can definitely envision the teen with the car keys. The untucked kids romping around for eggs. Give us this day our daily Erskine. Amen.
My oh my, Mr Erskine, you do know how to turn a phrase! I really enjoyed this morning's column. I was still half asleep when I first read it at 4:30 a.m., so am posting later this morning.
I love April in Paris, or alternately Springtime in Paris ... I once landed in Paris, in April, for a business trip. I had at least part of the weekend on my own. On April Fool's Day I went to the Quay d'Orsay Impressionism museum. (First of the month is a free day.) I fell in love with all of the Pierre Bonnards that were hanging around. I haven't seen as many Bonnards outside of Paris as I have paintings by the other Impressionists.
And one time when I was in Amsterdam, also on a business trip, the driver of the cab who was asked to take me to company headquarters, instead kept circling around, asking me if I wanted to to a "brown cafe" -- a cannabis dispensary -- which I did not. When I mentioned the overpriced cab ride to my manager, that the company might want to contest it, my manager just gave a dismissive laugh and said something about taxi drivers wanting to earn a little extra money.
Hi Kay, you're not the first -- or last -- tourist to be taken for a ride. I also love the d'Orsay, actually more than the Louvre. Have a spectacular Easter. Cheers!
This one made me cry and smile all at the same time. Kinda like our April weather. And thank you for making me stop to think about everything I Love. And you are in that list.
Emphasis on old but obviously a trumpet player. Lee Morgan, Bobby Rodriguez, Boyd Hood, Bill Chase, Shorty Rogers, Chet Bakers. My slow fingers just now gave out on me. I'm probably tired from this morning's swim
I am and always will be a functioning chocoholic! I hope you post Ester family photos. My adult grandchildren are hosting nearly 70 people for lots of Easter fun. Great to see family for happy occasions.

Hi Ann. I like the fellowship of all this. Enjoy this grand weekend.

As always, Caroll, your feedback elevates this little group. Thank you and all the folks who weigh in. I'm lucky to have you as friends. Happy Easter.

It is a luminous Spring morning;
March disintegrated rapidly
And blew into wild globes of blossoms
Flaring like torches that ignited
Spontaneously everywhere
You looked, as if an invisible
firestorm had set the known world on fire;
This seemed to happen without warning
Sometime in the recent history
Of time's turning, a flash of atoms
In countless tableaus that excited
Sleeping matter, its pith of dull bare
Flesh stoked by desire's risible
Heat, setting ablaze the eye's entire
Landscape, and my flesh began to sing
A sub-liminal song and to swing
Like a bell in the high loft of Spring;
Its blazing loveliness much like art
A camera records--What's apart
From Spring's gushing incredible scenes
That surges in me, and what it means
To feel beauty--indescribable--
An ecstasy, yet a viable thing--
Some touch in its art of happening
That thrills beyond descriptive measure
A season of mouthings to treasure;
I luxuriate in its mandate
Of explosive colored inundate--
Roar and sour much like a skyrocket;
Look out on stars, flame in my pocket
Soon to explode, fragment, and then fly
Into a hot Summer's panoply
Of circus rings; but for the sweet non
I want to be like paint in Spring: someone's
Lusty pigment--to show what I know;
And I want to brush on sheerly--slow
Always looking for love's afterglow
Intensity, Spring's blood on the pillow...
I call them “Perfect Moments”.
I love:
-My husband's blue eyes, Scottish accent, and kind heart
-My brothers' laughs. Both very different, but contagious
-My sister's super memory (only used for good
-Turner Classic Movies
-Hyacinth and lily of the valley
-A good mushroom and Swiss cheeseburger
-London and Salzburg
-A cabin on a Northwoods lake with a pontoon to go fishing
I love Bix Beiderbecke . . . . and Dizzy Gillespie and Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis and Harry James and Wayne Bergeron and Tatiana Tate.
Hi Bill. You must be an old horn player, like me. In any case, you have good taste in trumpets. Also love Freddy Hubbard and Arturo Sandoval.

As an old Italian (American- my grandparents came from Italia), I resemble that lust remark!
The mantra of my life;“Onward & upward!”
- Works for me!

Onward, Joe! And upward!
...SOAR like a skyrocket....
What a beautiful time in the midst of chaos. Happy Easter!!!

Happy Easter to you and all your dear family, Chris. Chocolate bunnies, peeps, and jellybeans always. 🐣
Descanso Gardens in all of it's spring glory please!
Robin, thanks for the feedback. Yeah, I think that's what we'll do. Stay tuned!
I love:
Our darling grandsons,
Our lovely and wise daughters and loving son-in-law,
My gardener husband, who fills our yards with blooms,
The climbing Joseph’s Coat rose that brightens a gray morning,
And speaking of blooms, the gorgeous jacaranda spring we’re having.
