Lovely list! Pithy and smiley. What does Elvis on a stick consist of? I loved your bobcats are cool comment. I actually had a bobcat in the house in one of my dreams last night! (I persuaded it to leave peacefully.) I wouldn't have listed the 5 worst college bands, though. Maybe you got that sarcasm from White Fang. Were those her picks? Final thought on your wonderful acknowledgment of some amazing women and girls in your life: When is our country going to wake up and elect a woman president like much of the civilized world already has? Would we likely be in the messes we are in now if ANY qualified female candidate were our leader? Just saying....Anyway, cheers to this "season of mists and mellow fruitfulness!" Cheers to you, Chris. Love those pics!
Can you spell misogyny? It's the only way Hilary could have lost to someone like Trump, then throw in the racism that's inherent in this country and you've got Kamala's loss.
I agree. Sadly, several of my women friends (and some of my male friends) believe we will never have a woman President. At least not in any of our lifetimes. On one of your other topics, Chris, I love the Illinois marching band, and really miss seeing Chief Illiniwek, even though I know he isn't PC. No one can ever explain the line, "We're loyal to you Illinois, for we know you've got sand..." I'd include the Michigan band because I like their fight song.
Deb, I can’t believe that I don’t exactly remember that line. I surely can “hear” it in my mind’s…ear?…though. It’s perfect Norm! Norm, working in a brewery? Yes, I can see him weeping (and trying to hide it). Thanks! I’ll look it up.
2. The celebrity I wanted to grow up and look like? Julie Newmar
(I was five years old when I made these observations)
I still like to catch an episode of "Batman", "Bewitched", or "I Dream of Jeannie" once in a while. And I was a huge "That Girl" fan--I wanted her apartment, all of her clothes, and her boyfriend.
I also love your random thoughts!!! Though, I have to say, I'm looking forward to your tips on grandparenting... just came back from a weekend with the great grands and I need a refresher!!!
Art, and there are NO bad college (or high school, for that matter) marching bands, right? These musicians work their little tails off to entertain us...standing up! I couldn't even master the piano sitting down! Kudos to you.
I have loved your lists since Pluto was a pup. I will, however, take exception to one comment: I am still enjoying Ted Lasso: his philosophy, his kindness, the women’s football team and all that they are handling. It’s tough, but it’s good stuff. I love marching bands too. Not good for music, but fun to watch! Happy Fall! Oh! We lived in Sierra Madre when we were first married (1973-1976), and just continued to love that town for 43 years after that until we moved to Sacramento. Gotta visit Algeria St. on Halloween to see all the jack-o-lanterns!
I never thought trivia could be magnificent. you've made me a believer. That B. B. King quote...sweet as a split banana, blues blasty as a Santa Ana, All of which we now got, Because both you and the weather are HOT....which maybe The Dodgers are not. So in the heat we'll wait to see: whether monetary heat to the Nth degree can buy another
triumph, in a lovely sport that's had enough, of all the ways that money's focus, melts the beauty in its hocus pocus, on a weekend when they could be beat by both the Braves...and the heat. Still there is that guy Ohtani ... Oh! to be there to watch him!--Sunny,, and as hot as he, himself may be: a wonder to see in a 100 degree beisbol melee. Though the hot dog mustard may be runny, and the warm beer may taste funny, you bought the tickets, so follow the money.
I used to live in a little house up near the head of Sierra Madre Canyon, where from my front porch I could watch the borate bombers drop their red powdery clouds over fire raging on the hills just above me, then hit their rudder pedal and wheel up and away from the steep mountain front rising in front of them and soar off to get another load. Going down to work in the mornings I would descend from above The L.A. haze down into it. It was and is a neat little town.
Great list. I love random thoughts. My head has been filled with them as long as I can remember. First celebrity crushes: Haley Mills then quickly replaced by Olivia Hussey.

Cheers’ Norm Peterson! Remember “It’s a dog-eat-dog world and I’m wearing Milk Bone Underwear”?
Love reading your column, Chris. My hubby and I’ve been following you since the LA Times days. Keep on writing, please!
Norm's first day of working in the brewery...."Norm, are you crying?"

Chris, I love your “Random Thoughts”, the way you find humor and heart in the little everyday things most of us overlook. It’s always a treat to read.
1. My first celebrity crush? Adam West

I wanted her hair.

As a former drum major, college football without marching bands is like Fred without Wilma, Batman without Robin, and Darrin without Sam.
so true!

High school marching bands rock!
Chris: Today. Wonderful. Full stop.
A friend from college days had a bit of a horse face. Some called him Mr. Ed. So cruel, of course of course.

Speaking of college marching bands and cool bobcats the Ohio University Bobcats Marching 110 was named #1 by USA Today
OU? OH YEAH!
Nonono…best small city in America- SIERRA MADRE!!!❤️🦖
Love that town!

Why I'm never leaving Sierra Madre!
How many brats do you want me to ship you? And, we need to work on an article about the perfect recipe for cooking brats.... it may start with beer.
How many you got?
How many do you want?
4,000. But a dozen would do.
Chris, please call the shop and we will hook you up with some brats.

You musings on the Flintstones, Bewitched and the original Batman are list on the youth of today, which is truly sad...... Great observations
